Agape

Agape Love.  Something most Christians don’t understand, and Non-Christians can’t see.  A Love so powerful that the thought of it can bring even Satan to his knees.  It’s like a light that is so bright, no one can look upon it, not even the angels.  It is a force so strong that nothing can control it.  Nothing can stop it.  A love that lasts for eternity.  There is nothing in all of creation that is greater than Agape Love.  What is Agape Love?

The word Agape is the original greek word for the strongest form of love.  This type of love is found in the popular verse in John.  “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

God loves us so much that He was willing to give up everything for us.  To lay His life down for us.  To be chastised, mocked, beaten, tortured, and nailed to a cross all for the sake of love.  As seen in a previous blog “I Thirst“, we see that God longs for a relationship with mankind.  Like a groom in search for His bride, or a Father looking for His child.  He thirsts for a relationship with us.  And while we reject Him, He pursued us.  And when we couldn’t reach Him, He came to us.

Through out the Old and New Testaments we see how God continues to pursue mankind. Examples:

  • When Adam fell, he hid himself from God.  Knowing God is omniscient, and knew where Adam was at, He still pursued after Adam and asked him, “Where are you?”
  • When Moses had led the children of Israel out of Egypt, they were shrouded in darkness and God could not reside with them..  But God wanted to be with them so desperately  despite their sin, that He asks Moses to build Him a Holy Sanctuary just so He can be with them.
  • Isaiah prophesied  “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Which being interpreted, God With Us.
  • Jesus said before His ascension that He would return for His people.
  • And finally John 3:16 tells us that He loved us so much He came to lay down His life for us.

Just like Adam, we choose this world over our God, but yet He still fights for us.  We cheated on Him.  Though we should be married to Him, we had an affair with the world and our sins.  “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

And though God is still the Righteous Judge, He always loves us unconditionally. And nothing we do will discontinue His love for us.  “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

God is willing to do anything and to give everything.  He loves us so much that He is the very definition of Love.  “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” 1 John 4:8

And when we commune ourselves with Him, then we can have our eyes opened to that Agape Love.  And we will be called Children of God.  And when we encounter this Agape Love, we will never be the same.

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”  1 John 3:1-2

But remember the statement I said in the beginning?  Most Christians don’t understand it, and Non-Christians can’t see it?  1 John 3:6  says “Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.”  And if God is love, then those that remain in sin, can not see Agape, neither do they know it.

And Most Christians don’t understand it, because they forget, that just calling yourself a Christian and loving God is not enough.  “In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.  We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not [his] brother abideth in death.  Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.”  1 John 3 10,14-15

But that, is for Agape (Part 2)…

True Love

What is true love?  Some say that true love can happen at the first sight, or first kiss.  True love is unconditional.  True love is defined today inside a simple movie saga.  Here is the summary.

Children, Teenagers, and Adults alike, sit in amazement at the love story of a mortal choosing between a vampire and a werewolf.  So dark yet intimate.  So eerie but sweet.  So evil, but fulfilling.  They watch in awe as the romance in the vampires voice tells his mortal girlfriend I want to be with you but i will not destroy your soul.  They watch in amazement how the mortal chooses the dead over the living creature.  They watch with gleaming eyes as the vampire and the mortal fall in love, get married, have an un-dead baby and kill the mortal only to turn her into a vampire giving her an eternal damnation for her soul.  They watch to see “true” love conquer all.

The world decides it is better to lose their soul for the lust of their hearts.  The world decides it is better for the darkness to abide while fleeing from the light.  The world decides it is better to let a man take your blood, then give his own to save you.  They would rather believe that true love is allowing a man to damn your soul, then giving it eternal life.   This is how America today views true love.

But this is the work of Satan.

The movie?  Maybe but I am not talking about the movie.  I am talking about the perversion in true love today.  The belief that true love is not about giving life but taking it.  Sure the mortal gave her life up to be with the vampire.  But she also gave her soul.

This is not true love, only true lust.

But what is true love?  1 John 4:8 says God is love.  In every definition of God you will see Love.  And if you want to see true love, just read HIS word.  Here is the summary.

While man yet cheated on God and turned their back on Him, God still wanted to pursue man.  Though God could not be near sin and death, He gave up his throne to wrap Himself in flesh just so He could be with us.   And He walked this evil world just to shine a light so that we could see the true definition of true love and to save our lives.  And man still chose evil over God so He did what had to be done.  The only way to save their lives and show them true love was to give up His life for them.  Thus true love conquered all.

Now as man is scattered all over the earth, some have realized it is better to surrender their life for God, instead of giving up their soul for the world.  These people realized it is better to shine as lights then live in complete darkness.  These people realized that God shed his blood so no one else ever has to.  They have seen true love and inherited eternal life and watched the rest damn their own souls by rejecting God.  This America, is True Love.

You see the difference?  Continue to look for your vampire and he will eventually drain the life from you.  And your love/lust will only live as long as your flesh does.  But God said if we come to Him, that His love endures forever.  Even after our flesh is gone.

True love is not about “what can this person do for me?”.  Such as,

  • Does he make me laugh?
  • Is she beautiful?
  • Does he care for me?
  • Can she fulfill my needs?
  • Can he provide for me?

True love is about “What can i do for this person?” Such as,

  • How can I show him I care?
  • Can I provide for her?
  • I want to fulfill his needs.
  • I want her to laugh.
  • I will give my life to them and for them.

True love can be found in God and in His Word.

1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

This is True Love.
