Well, I guess it is time to discuss the topic that everyone is afraid of. Do I have eternal security? Or Can I lose my salvation? This is a very touchy topic so I want to go over this with not just my words, but with prayer and God’s word. This blog is called Pentecost Perceiver because I believe that the bible is verbally inspired by God Himself. And while God speaks to me through His word, it is my job as a divinely anointed preacher to spread His word to you.
1.) Hebrews 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.
Lets take a look at this verse real carefully. He became the author of “eternal salvation” (not eternal security) unto all that obey him. What this teaches us, is when Jesus died on the cross, we can be saved for eternity if we choose. If we want the salvation, we must OBEY him. If we as Christians, do not obey his law and commandments, then we shall lose our salvation and spend eternity in hell. The bible tells us in Proverbs 28:4 “To reject the law is to praise the wicked…” and 1 john 3:8 says “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning…” This tells us it don’t matter if you are a sinner or a Christian, if you sin, you praise the one who sinned since the beginning. Continue to read in 1 john 3 and start your own study.
2.) Hebrews 10 (The new covenant) Some say that this new covenant says Christ died once, for all of our sins. Past, Present, and Future. Though this is true to an extent, they blow it out of proportion and change it to something that satisfies them. The verse used here is mainly verse 14. “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” But if they continue to read the WHOLE chapter, they will find the reference to the old Mosaic law. That speaks of people having to give an animal sacrifice every year that didn’t cleanse them of their sin, but merely reminded the people of them. These offerings would never take away their sins. But when Jesus came and spilled his blood, He cleansed them all of their sins. And His blood that was spilled will be offered to mankind until the end of days.
In order to be saved the bible says that we must:
- Believe He died on the cross to free us from sins, and that He was buried and Rose from the grave.
- Confess our sins and call upon His name, and accept Him as our Savior
- Come with a repentant heart. (Repent means to turn away or change from)
When we accept Jesus as our Savior (keyword accept), Then we are cleansed from our sins. But just as Lot’s wife in the old testament, When God told her not to look back at her sinful and shameful life, she turned her eyes off of God and turned her eyes to her past. God immediately destroyed her. This was old testament so there was no second chance.
And just as Peter in the new testament, When Jesus called him unto the water, Peter took his eyes off of Jesus and began to sink, drowned and like Lot’s wife, be destroyed. But this time with a new covenant, Peter had a second chance. He called upon the name of the Lord and cried “Save Me!” Peter, who was at this time a disciple, was being destroyed by the one who called him unto the water because Peter failed to keep his eyes on God. The bible tells us in Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm. If we don’t hold firm to God’s laws and commandments then we fall short of the Glory of God. We will waver, we will sink, we will drown, and we will be destroyed. By the devil? No. But by the One who wrote your name down in the Lambs book of Life. Because He will also blot it out.
3.) Some of those that believe in eternal security say that if a Christian was to die and go to hell, they were never saved to begin with. Thus they couldn’t have lost their salvation. Well lets take a look at the verse I have for that. Galations 5:1 Tells us that Christ has truly set us free. And to make sure that we STAY free and not to be “tied up again”. In vs 4 he says If we try to make ourselves right with God by keeping the law, that we have fallen away from Christ. It is so easy to undo what God has given you at the time of your salvation. Now don’t get me wrong when I say undo what God has done. God can undo your salvation but that does not mean we are “un-forgiven”. Eph 1:7 says that God can never un-forgive anyone. But He also does not forgive sins not yet committed. “If” any man sin, he is in need of an Advocate (1 John 2:1-2). If one fails to seek reconciliation with God after they have sinned, and continues in that sin unrepentant, there remains no more sacrifice for their sins (Heb. 10:26; 1 Jn. 1:9). God does not “un-forgive” anything. It is our failure to receive forgiveness by refusing to turn to God for that forgiveness. The redemption is for past sins only (Romans 3:25). Upon the condition of believing, (v.26), and faith, (v.28). If you refuse to lay hold of redemption through belief and faith, by rejecting it through unbelief and lack of faith; it is not God who “un-redeems” you, but your rejection of that redemption.
4.) Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Now lets look at this verse. Many will find that broad and wide gate because they believe they are eternally secure and not concerned about the Lords commandments. But someone who decides to live a holy and humble life for God can walk the strait and narrow on the path of righteousness. It is difficult because of the problems and temptations we face. But as long as we keep our eyes on Jesus as Peter did, then we can walk on water strait toward Jesus and into righteousness. The bible also says in Matthew 24:12-13 Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. This tells us that sin is everywhere. But those who decide to walk the strait and narrow through out their WHOLE life, will be saved. If you can’t remain faithful to God by not committing sin, then God will not remain with you. The bible even says in Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who calls out to me ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in Heaven will enter. This tells us that we can call ourselves Christians all we want. We can go to church, pay tithes, and what have you, but it means nothing unless you actually obey him and follow his commandments. And I’m not just talking about the 10 commandments listed in Exodus. I will post another blog on commandments later.
5.) Now let us look at Luke 13:22-30
Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he went, always pressing on toward Jerusalem. Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?” He replied, “Work hard to enter the narrow door to God’s Kingdom, for many will try to enter but will fail. When the master of the house has locked the door, it will be too late. You will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Lord, open the door for us!’ But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ Then you will say, ‘But we ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ And he will reply, ‘I tell you, I don’t know you or where you come from. Get away from me, all you who do evil.’ “There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, for you will see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God, but you will be thrown out. And people will come from all over the world, from east and west, north and south, to take their places in the Kingdom of God. And note this: Some who seem least important now will be the greatest then, and some who are the greatest now will be least important then.”
Jesus tells us here that in order to enter God’s kingdom we must “Work Hard”. Many will try to enter thinking their saved. Only because they thought they were eternally secure. And you will stand outside his door pleading and begging God to let you in but since there is sin in your heart, He will tell you “I don’t know who you are.” And again you will plea “But I went to church, I pay tithes, I was part of communion and even PREACHED the gospel.” But since their is STILL sin in your heart, God will tell you again, “I don’t know you, GET AWAY FROM ME YOU WHO DO EVIL!.” And you WILL be sent to an eternity in hell. It’s easy to see that Jesus tells Christians that when we sin, we can not enter in the kingdom of God.
6.) But what about the phrase “We ALL sin EVERYDAY?!” Its technically not true. Remember when I discussed 1 John 3? It also says in this scripture on verse 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. This means that a Christian CAN NOT SIN UNLESS HE CHOOSES TOO! If you life your life in Christ, your not sinning. If you COMMIT sin, then you are of the devil and you must repent of THAT sin to be saved or else THAT sin will consume you. If you reject your salvation that Christ has given you, then Christ will reject you.
7.) The last thing I am going to discuss is what Jesus tells us about people who preach eternal security. It says Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. The one known as “The Deceiver” is Satan. This is recorded in Genesis when he deceived Eve into disobeying God. Satan tells Eve in Genesis 3:4 that if she disobeyed God, she shal not surely die. But be as God. The preachers that deceive us into believing in Eternal Security tell us that if we sin today, we shall NOT surely die (lose our salvation) if we sin, or eat of the world’s fruit, but be as God. (Holy without sin and forever without sin.) The eternal security doctrine teaches No matter what we do, or who we are, we will still go to heaven. Or else you were never saved to begin with. And this teaching is a lie. It is a “Get out of jail free card.” It is to let Christians think they can get away with almost anything. This teaches death, instead of life. And if you have been thinking you can do whatever you want and still go to heaven. Think again. You are headed for an eternity in hell because you CHOOSE to disobey the bibles CLEAR instructions on daily Christian living. This is truth. But even if you still believe in eternal security then I have to ask you a question. If I’m wrong, what does it hurt me? I’m going to heaven regardless. But what if your wrong? Do you want to take that chance? Study the new covenant in Hebrews 10 and study 1 John 3. Studay the Lords commandments and the gospels of what happens to those who disobey him. Still think your secured? Because you “Get out of jail free card, has been void this whole time.”
